Academician - Scholar - Artist
I am a southasian origin award-winning photographer, a film-maker who also produces scholarly work on visual narratives. My films and photography work has traveled extensively including prestigious galleries like The India Habitat Centre, Delhi.
My film school education at AJK MCRC Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi, led me to produce and analyze moving images. I made a few films, but the key one was 'The Girl from Delhi' based on Indian Partition Cinema and Women.
My passion lies in study and creation of the Moving Images. One of my state commissioned projects in India includes an exhibition on History of Indian Cinema: BD Garga Archives with Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts in the capacity of a consultant.
Theorizing Cinema was a natural shift, and I went on to study Cinema Studies at the School of Arts and Aesthetics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. To gain international exposure, I audited a few classes at Tisch School of Arts, New York University and Department of Visual Studies, State University of New York at Buffalo in the US.
Apart from independent projects and research papers, I have also been a faculty at various national and international universities including Delhi University, India and the State University of New York, Buffalo. I have regularly conducted workshops, attended conferences, published research papers and now doing the same.
In my career so far, apart from independent projects and research papers, I have been conducting workshops and lecturing students at Under Grad and Masters level on Film Studies, Documentary Production, Visual Arts, Photography, and Journalism.
I have now moved to the UK for better prospects in my area of research.
Before moving to Cinema Studies, I have worked with leading media organizations including New Delhi Television Limited (NDTV), Cable News Network (CNN) and Indian Express Newspapers.
I have also been a recipient of awards for excellence in academics as well as media production. Apart from work, I like to read, travel, photograph and paint.
